VSCO2 Rompler

Big thanks to VST Planet for making this video

Otto used the VSCO2 Community edition to create this award winning song. Grats Otto!

So there is a big problem because  of invalid DMCA takedown orders for everything named VSCO from a company that happens to use those initials for something entirely different. So none of the old links work. So I put all of 25 separate instruments in one big zip for the Win and Mac Types. Note everything here is legal and done with the full knowledge of Versilian Studios who created the samples and artwork.

25 Single Instruments in one big package (2 gigs roughly) (Reaper users use this)

Win 64   Win 32     Mac VST   Mac AU

Use the VST4Free link for the full rompler as my Mediafire version was removed again. Gotta love companies that perjure themselves to take down legitimate free things. Capitalism gone amuck. If this makes you mad go down vote the VSCO photo app.

I know some countries can't access Mediafire and so the gentleman behind VST4Free has kindly agreed to provide another host for the project. This link is to the full Rompler, you can also browse bigcat instruments next to the '>' sign to get the individual instruments.

Note this needs Windows Vista or later, it won't work on XP.
The full Rompler creates a crash issue with Reaper. The individual instruments seem to work fine, so please try those instead if you use Reaper.

Thanks to Sam Gossner and his crew for this collection of samples. Thanks to Simon Autenrieth for the artwork. Take a look at the Community Edition on Sam's site. You can find the samples, SFZ versions and much more. If you enjoy the sound you might invest in the pro edition. I did and I'm quite enjoying it. The fun exotic instruments like wooden flutes, baroque recorders and unique brass along with more standard orchestra instruments and great percussion make it worth the price of admission.

Thanks to VST4Free for providing alternate hosting here.

  2. MAC USERS- When downloading depending on which you chose or both {VST} {COMPONENT} Your Mac may ask If you want to download as a VST / COMPONENT or ZIP Choose ZIP! Then unzip and Install. I made mistake of choosing VST and Component and they did not work- I downloaded again and chose ZIP and all is well
    BIGCAT AWESOME STUFF! TY!

is there any other way to download your instruments?

    1. I didn't know that mediafire didn't work in Russia. Thanks for letting me know. I've asked another site if they would be interested in hosting the Rompler. If they are, I'll add a link to their site on the blog.

    2. VST4Free is now hosting the Rompler as well slong with the individual instruments.

    1. Just find out in your DAW where the VST files are located and unzip the rompler zip file into that directory.
For instance my main VST directory is C:\Program Files\Vstplugins . Your DAW should scan for VSTs on startup or you can tell it to rescan for VSTs.

  8. Hello,

Is there any way to use it with Avid Pro Tools 12 ?

    Thanks ! :)

    ReplyDelete

    1. Sadly Pro Tools uses proprietary AAX format that Maize Sampler can't export in.

      Fortunately SForzando does AAX
      https://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando/

And the VSCO2 Community Edition is available for SFZ
      https://github.com/sgossner/VSCO-2-CE/tree/SFZ

So you should be able to go that direction.

  10. Does anyone else have a problem with using the Rompler in REAPER?
I saved a project with the Rompler loaded and armed and I'm not able to open the project anymore - it crashes every single time I try to load it.
I still can use the SFZ version, but I like the new GUI of the Rompler.
Also - great job on this VST guys, it's very good!

    1. Unfortunately there seems to be an error where the specific instrument being used in the Rompler isn't being saved correctly in Reaper. The individual instruments seem to work fine.

  11. This is magical stuff Joe, I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate your hard work.

I am having an issue where the V2 VSTs crash Ableton Live 9 Suite (32bit) instantly when I try to load them up. I have tried the complete orchestra, and the individual files. It is a slightly older version of Live - I tried a newer version on a friend's computer and they work fine - but it's impractical for me to upgrade Live on my own machine for a number of reasons.

Have you any suggestions for how I might fix it? I adore the new GUIs and articulation controls, I would love to be able to use these properly.

    Many thanks,
    DRMF

    3. On a similar but different issue Sam Gossner (the sampled behind VSCO2) said this...
"However, there is one possible workaround- try downloading an older Maize instrument, such as VS Upright or Bigcat's individual Sonatina instruments, then go inside the .instruments folder, delete the contents, an replace them with the contents of the .instruments folder of the VSCO CE set. I can't promise it will work, and it may require trying a few different older Maize VST's, but it might work."

It might be worth a try as these were made with a newer version of Maize Sampler and the older Sonatina instruments weren't.
You could try it with the the Sonatina Violin (I'm using you are using windows?)

    1. Sadly Reaper seems to have problems with the Rompler itself, however you can download and use individual instrument fine. Just unzip them into your VST directory which should be something like C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins . Then tell Reaper to rescan your VSTs.

    1. I must admit to me all the scripting on this VSCO2 Rompler is magic. Sam Gossner and Simon Autenrieth from Versilian Studios gave me a couple scripts and the artwork and explained in small words how to make instruments using these assets.

Sam and all kind of smart developers hang out at Scoring Central. I would try asking there or on the KVR Maize Forum where the very clever Sample Science hangs out.

Unfortunately it crashes my Reaper sometimes when I try to choose it in VST folder. I also downloaded separate instruments as it was suggested above, but they also crash Reaper when I am trying to put it on the tracks.
Any ideas how can I solve this issue? Thanks in advance

    1. I'm sorry to hear that. It seems like Reaper can be very picky about what it wants to run and some versions seem to not work with VSTs made in Maize. They seem to run fine in my older version so I'm at a loss what to tell you. You might try asking on the Reaper forums. Again I'm sorry this has happened.

  20. Hi,
First this VST sounds amazing. That's an amazing job.
But it seems like i'm encountering some problems with VSCO2 (rompler) and LMMS. The instruments are loading properly, but this is when i leave and reload the save that VSCO2 makes LMMS crash.
Is anyone else encountering this problem ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Unfortunately LMMS can be unstable with Maize VSTis.
You could try the individual instruments rather than the Rompler, but I don't know if that would help.

You might be better off trying the SFZ version, you can find info about that here...

  21. What is the difference between a version 1 and version 2 instrument (for example version 1 flute and version 2 flute)

    ReplyDelete

    1. Version 2 adds round robins for the short articulations and release times are shorter with reverb added. Version 2 looks nicer as well. Also the sustain samples generally attack more aggressively in 1 but are more gentle in 2.

  22. Hi ! I'm new to this. So I don't really know how it works. I've installed and scanned with the .dll file and Fl studio finds it but what am I supposed to do with the .mse files? Because Fl studio tells me that "there isn't any instrument" and that may be because he can't recognize the mse file but yeah.

  28. Hey Bigcat,

I love everything this library has to offer! I'm running into a problem where when using this in logic, it tends to crash a lot. Also, whenever I open the session, the articulations I set for the strings always reverts back to Arco and I have to keep resetting the articulations track by track every time I re-open the session. Is this because I have the free version? Does the paid version have this glitch and take up less CPU?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sorry you are having this problem. You might try the SFZ version.
      http://vis.versilstudios.net/vsco-community.html
You can also find out about the paid versions here and contact Sam who runs the company directly. I don't have anything to do with the paid version other than being a happy owner of the Kontakt version.

      Delete
    2. You should consider setting a keyswitch at the start of each track that specifies the articulation in use. This will fix your issue and save time in the future!

      Delete
  29. Also, I noticed in some of the samples, there is some noise ot the performer adjusting in his chair or coughing. Is this also an issue with the paid version? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Good ear. I missed that. I quite enjoy the full version and haven't noticed any extraneous noises.

      Delete
    2. Keep in mind that all modern sample libraries from here to Spitfire have little noises (Spitfire in fact intentionally records them, as do many other companies now) in order to create more realism- the days of 'sanitized' samples are over. While we actively seek to minimize sounds by careful mic placement, instructions for players, specific clothing, and elimination of environmental noises, people are living (and worst of all, breathing) things that move around, sometimes without intending to. If you want absolutely pure samples, get a GM soundfont or a synthesizer to be honest, that's your best shot.

The Professional Edition use the same sampleset, but with many more samples, more natural dynamics (note that Joe normalized many of the samples for his versions, which added lots of gain, bringing the noise floor up with it, but providing an arguably more consistent feel), multiple mic positions (which can isolate sounds), built-in filters and convolution reverb (to remove and mask sounds), and many other per-instrument tweaks and alterations (removing samples, combining articulations, equalization, hand-tweaking dynamics, etc.). The SFZ version is the closest thing available to the Professional Edition in the freeware realm.
